Location

The Sweet Spot of North Carolina

As grand as Nature herself, this unspoiled place sits amidst stands of cypress, yellow pine and oak trees on a bluff overlooking the deep-blue expanse of the Albemarle Sound.  More than just a beautiful place, it was here in the early 1600s, in what is now known as the Merry Hill area of Bertie County, that the seeds were planted by settlers from the British Isles for what would become the Colony and, ultimately, the State of North Carolina.  And, it is here that modern-day settlers like you come to enjoy the scenic brilliance and comfortable year-round climate, as well as the outdoor recreation and relaxed lifestyle of North Carolina’s Inner Banks.

It comes as surprise to some to learn that the Albemarle Sound is the second-largest estuary in the country, second only to the Chesapeake Bay.  Here on its banks you’ll find the 900 acres known as Scotch Hall Preserve, equidistant from historic Windsor, the seat of Bertie County, and the picturesque and celebrated town of Edenton, seat of Chowan County.

Whether you’re a history buff, golfer, fisherman, boater, hunter, runner or walker, antique collector, tennis player, boutique shopper, or merely a nature lover, this region has something to enthrall you, your family and your friends. Nothing could be finer than True Carolina™.
